The Styling Dutchman needs your advice!

I've found a possible dress to wear to that wedding I've been talking about, it's New Look and crushed velvet and very basic, but head to toe crushed velvet is a lot of look as it is so I like the basic-ness.

What do you think? I'm not sure because I feel like the crushed velvet might look too cheap for a wedding, but maybe it's just the lighting? This skirt I've been eyeing probably is made from the same crushed velvet as they're both New Look, and I think the velvet looks better on the skirt, so maybe the picture of the dress just sucks...
Better, right? Tell me what you think! I plan on adding an open back and a slit in the back to the dress, and maybe change it into a skirt after the wedding? Please be honest!

  5. You've definitely got the right proportions for the dress - I say go for the dress:).
Oh and by the way, you've got an award!

Mooier dan die hierboven, maar ook wel een stuk duurder.. Denk je niet dat het gewoon aan de foto ligt dat die jurk er zo goedkoop uitziet? :( :D

Pull your socks up: thank you on both accounts!! :D

Kim: not cheap? Think I'd look classy in it? I'd probably just go for some simple black heel, maybe a peeptoe or a T strap sandal.

  8. definately pro the turn-dress-in-skirt idea. that skirt'll be awesome and grungy! the dress i think is simple and classy enough. i don't know about the fabric. it's up to you wether to trust asos or not? :P i'm pretty sure it'll be fine though..
and can't you go to stores where they sell stuff like this :P i always want to try on before i buy!

  9. Okay this is going to be an honest opinion ;) I am sure you will look totally lovely in the dress, but I personally think it's not the right dress for a wedding. Well it depends on the setting and the dress code, but I wouldn't wear something black and it's possibly too casual. Okay, I admit I am a bit old fashioned about that. But you really look so gorgeous in colorful prints, so maybe go for something more lively instead? :)

Here are some links including some inspiration. :)

And I also think you could easily wear one of these dresses:

I hope I don't sound rude. I really love your style! But I though I add a honest comment. :)

  10. Oh no don't worry about sounding rude! :D I can handle a lot of rudity :D

I'm not all pro black for weddings either, but I know the crowd and my family a bit and most of them wear black themselves to weddings. I think the dress is too casual as it is, but I though that if I added an open back and a slit in the back it would be more like oldtime hollywood glam instead of nineties grunge. Most dresses you linked are jersey, and I cannot stand the idea of wearing a fabric as casual as jersey to a wedding :D I'm weird like that, my most important search criteria were:

    no jersey
    preferably print
    no strapless
    maxi dress
    cheap but not cheap looking

I'd love to do a print, but I haven't found any print I liked so I thought I'd just stick to plain black :( Thanks for your honest opinion and tips though! I thought about wearing the blue dress you linked, but it just doesn't feel weddingy to me, and the purple one is jersey too, and it has spaghetti straps, and spaghetti straps are sooo casual :D

  11. sheila: I know that that shape would flatter me so I don't really have to try it on, and I haven't found a similar dress in shops so I had to order from the internet :(

  12. ...I dunno whether you're still open to comments or not, but I really do think that dress works. Is it going to be a winter wedding? If so, I'm thinking velvet would be fine - with the right accessories, of course; and I don't think you'd have a problem with that n_n Besides, the slit and open back you propose to add would improve it loads.

If you're still looking, though, I found these: They're both Rayon with a little bit of Spandex, and I personally love the colors - though I'm not sure as to whether they would work - again - for a winter wedding.
