Beauty: Lime Crime velvetine swatches

I hope everyone has been having lovely Christmas days, enjoying copious amounts of food, family love and cheesy movies. I'm dropping in to share some Lime Crime velvetine swatches with you guys. I wrote about the velvetines earlier after ordering Pumpkin for myself and a couple of other colours for my friends (group orders are where it's at). We all loved the quality of our Lime Crime orders so much that a second (and when Black Friday came along, a third) order was only a matter of time.

I found it hard to find reliable colour swatches of some shades when contemplating which velvetines to get, so I figured more is more when it comes to swatches! My friends were nice enough to let me swatch their orders as well, so I've put together a big post featuring pictures of a range of Lime Crime velvetines in consistent light so you can compare and figure out whether these might suit you.

I plan to add to this post if we order more velvetines, but right now, it features Suedeberry, Trouble, Fetish, Cindy, Beet it, Wicked, Prairie, Saint, Rave, Red Velvet, Cupid and Squash.

Beauty: ABH Modern Renaissance palette review and five looks

Beauty: ABH Modern Renaissance palette review and five looks

If you know me, you know I have a neverending love for pink/red eye makeup. Blogger favourites like the Huda Beauty Rose Gold palette, Kylie Burgundy palette, Violet Voss Holy Grail palette or the Lime Crime Venus palette are selling like hotcakes, and burgundy smokey eyes are raking in the likes on instagram. I already stocked up on a bunch of red/pink/gold eyeshadows earlier this year when I filled up a Z palette with Makeup Geek pans (ordered from Beauty Bay), so I never felt like one of those popular palettes would be a real addition to my already pretty huge stash.

If there is one blogger that knows her shit and doesn't just hype up every product they're being paid to promote, it's Stephanie Nicole. And even if you don't agree with what she says, her swatches of the palette compared to those of the Huda Rose Gold palette spoke volumes to me. Rarely had I seen eyeshadows swatch so opaquely in one swipe. The more I saw beauty lovers like my girl Natasja rave about Modern Renaissance, the more I realized that I might just need this palette in my life. I put myself on some waiting lists and then pounced on that shit when it came back in stock on Cultbeauty. About a week later, I opened the pink velvet box and fell in love.

I've been planning this review for a while now, but I wanted to play around enough with the palette to demonstrate its versatility. Enjoy!

Beauty: NYX Cosmic Metal in Speed of Light review

Beauty: NYX Cosmic Metal in Speed of Light review

The holiday parties are coming up, and if you're a makeup lover like me, you're probably already mentally preparing the perfect beauty looks to go with your festive outfits. I always pick comfort over style (which is why you so rarely see me in heels or skin tight anything), and if there's one tip I can give you for any party: make sure your hair and makeup looks great, and no one will care if your outfit is mega stylish or not. I mean, if your eyeliner is on fleek, you can probably get away with those comfy loose trousers that allow you to eat all the food without having to pop a button.

If you want to try something new this year, look no further than metallic lips. The metallic lip trend keeps picking up speed, and today I'll be talking about the NYX Cosmic Metal liquid lipstick, in the gorgeous rose gold Speed of Light shade. I'll never get tired of the rose gold trend, man, I don't care how basic that makes me.

Another day, another highlighter review! Today I will be talking about Urban Decay's Naked Illuminated Trio, which is part of their holiday collection.  If you're still putting together your Christmas wishlist, and you're a makeup fan like I am, I suggest you read on for a very thorough review of this highlighter palette. Lots of pics ahead!

Travel: Amsterdam and discovering Kruidvat's Moments of Me

Zara pink velvet body and choker

Hi there! Friyaaaaaay when I'm typing this, and the perfect moment to share a photo report of the lovely weekend my guy and I spent in Amsterdam. We were introduced to the new Kruidvat collection and enjoyed a relaxing stay at Element hotel Amsterdam. Oh, and of course I shopped a bit.

I've had a lovely weekend spending quality time with my guy and enjoying a quick visit to Amsterdam, which I will tell you more about soon. First, let's check out some eye (and cheek) candy! MAC was kind enough to send me two of their dazzleshadows, and two matte blushes.

Beauty: Visa Lux highlighter review

Beauty: Visa Lux highlighter review

I've been on a roll reviewing highlighters lately, or at least I feel like I am! Today I'm talking about a new indie brand line of highlighters, produced and sold by a girl I met in one of my favourite Facebook groups: Beauty Squad. Beauty Squad is this place where Dutch speaking makeup lovers unite to fangirl about pretty products and each other's faces, and share info on sales and coupons etcetera. Of course there's some drama once in a while, but most of the time I love how positive, girly and supportive the group is, and I love seeing other women explore their passion for makeup.

Paressa took the plunge to start Visa Lux cosmetics, manufacturing her own highlighters (she mixes the pigments and presses the powders herself!), and she contacted a couple of bloggers in the Beauty Squad group to test her goods and provide her with some nice pics. Let's take a look at Strawberry Milkshake!

Paris, Comic Con & Dr. Strange

Well hello! I don't know if you have any weekend plans, but you might be in the mood to go see a movie. If you are, and if you're a fan of scifi/superhero/fantasy stuff like I am, I suggest you go see Doctor Strange! As you may have picked up from my social media, I was invited to the Doctor Strange avant première at Comic Con Paris. Since my boyfriend had been looking forward to the movie for at least half a year before the release date, and since I had never been to Paris (seriously!), this sounded like a pretty sweet opportunity. Only caveat: getting up early on Sunday to get to Antwerp on time, gotta catch the Thalys to Paris!

Beauty: Lime Crime Pumpkin & Squash Velvetine review

Beauty: Lime Crime Pumpkin & Squash Velvetine review

So about a week ago, I discovered my favourite liquid lipsticks to date: the Lime Crime velvetines. I remember reading about these years ago when Lime Crime basically launched one of the very first smudge proof, matte drying liquid lipstick back in 2012, sparking the trend that lasts until today. I also remember all of the negativity surrounding the brand and its founder, Doe Deere. And yes, there is a lot to side eye the brand for.

However, over the next couple of months I developed an obsession with finding the perfect kind of rusty/burnt orange matte lip colour. And then Lime Crime was having a sale and my sister was eyeing another velvetine shade and well, before I knew it I had placed my order for two Pumpkin velvetines and one Squash velvetine for me and my sis, and Salem for my girl Sabina. Lime Crime charges flat rate $10 shipping which includes import duty for Belgian shoppers, yay!

But then something went wrong with my order: somehow my house number did not register correctly and our box of Velvetines was on its way back to the U.S. and we were super frustrated. Cosmetics blue balls is one of the worst kinds, man. However, I contacted Lime Crime's customer's service via their chat function and within minutes, a replacement order was on its way to me. Their shipping is super quick and just 6 days later, I already had my precious Pumpkin velvetine in my hands!

I've already spoiled my opinion on these in the very first line of this post, but it bears repeating: the velvetines we ordered are ah-mazing. Let's take a closer look.

Beauty: MAC Liptensity Double Fudge and Habanero review

Beauty: MAC Liptensity Double Fudge and Habanero review

Today is a completely ridiculous, depressing, black day for women and minorities. Yesterday I went to sleep filled with hope and pride, moved by the people queing to put their "I voted" stickers on Susan B. Anthony's grave in a tribute to the suffragettes who paved the way to Hillary. Today, I woke up and quickly checked my facebook feed to see how the US elections had turned out, and there it was: a punch in the gut instead of a fist through the glass ceiling. Honestly, to me it feels like they polled one of the greatest nations in the world about who they hate most: women who don't know their place + minorities, or abusers. And abuser came out on top. On one hand I'm not surprised, and on the other I'm in shock, numb, angry and depressed.

It didn't feel right to write this blogpost without a small note on politics, and I feel that sharing my feelings with as many people as possible lightens the load for all of us. So if you feel like venting or talking or commiserating, send me a mail or a tweet or a comment and we'll talk. And let's all pull strength from Hillary's amazing concession speech:

"This loss hurts, but please never stop believing that fighting for what's right is worth it. It is, it is worth it. And so we need - we need you to keep up these fights now and for the rest of your lives. And to all the women, and especially the young women, who put their faith in this campaign and in me: I want you to know that nothing has made me prouder than to be your champion. Now, I know we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling, but someday someone will — and hopefully sooner than we might think right now. And to all of the little girls who are watching this, never doubt that you are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams."

Now, let's put one foot in front of the other and keep fighting the good fight. I know I'm just getting more combative.

Anyway, I have a job to do! Let's look at my review of the new MAC Liptensity lipsticks.

MAC launched these in October, and the Liptensity lipsticks boast a satin finish, a hyper pigmented, gel-like formula that is supposed to last longer than other satin finish lipsticks (MAC claims wear up to 8 hours), and 24 on trend shades developed in collaboration with Maureen Seaberg. Fun fact: Seaberg is a writer, and a tetrachromat, which means she has the genetic ability to see millions of extra shades of colour us regular people can't distinguish. In short, these are basically superhero designed lipsticks. Cool, right?? I received Double Fudge and Habanero for reviewing purchases, so let's dive in.

Home: Rituals interior fragrances

Home: Rituals interior fragrances

Disclaimer: I share my home with three cats, one boyfriend and two teenage boys. Not to be a hater or anything, but that's SIX creatures that add mess and different (pleasant or not) smells to our living areas. I have a pretty sensitive nose, and a busy life with a never ending to do list, and nothing calms my type-a mind like sitting down in a tidy space that smells nice. Preferably with a cat in my lap and some candles burning, and Rihanna's Anti album playing in the background. With the kids getting older and toys taking up less space in our living area, we've managed to put a bit more style into our home.

I'm happy with the way our space looks now, but there's always room for improvement. You can imagine my excitement when I received a HUGE gift box from Rituals, containing six of their home perfume products for different parts of the house. I love Rituals' fragrances (we always buy our deodorant and car perfume there), and their items don't just smell good, they also look great as home accessories. Let me give you a small tour of some corners of our home, and Rituals' home perfumes.

Beauty: Kylie Jenner liquid lipstick Candy K review

Beauty: Kylie Jenner liquid lipstick Candy K review

Quickie review today! I've been low key obsessed with Kylie Jenner since before she even got lipfillers (or maybe she just had less lipfillers back then, I honestly can't tell anymore), and I credit her + her team for truly popularizing the whole 90s revival thing going on in fashion and makeup. She has capitalized on her look by launching the Kylie lipkits, and even though I am forever a liquid lipstick sceptic (many of them truly suck), I've been lusting after the lipkits ever since she launched them.

However, ordering stuff from the USA if you live in Europe ain't easy. I mean it is, but it's also expensive in shipping and import duty. Also, spending $29 on a liquid lipstick + lip pencil you haven't even been able to swatch seems pretty cray to me. But then Kylie went and offered $5 flat rate international shipping a couple of weeks ago, and I noticed she also sold some of her liquids as singles (without the pencil) which meant I could order a Kylie liquid and have it shipped over for about €20, which is below the minimum that would be charged for import duty. In the end, I just went for it and ordered Candy K, the shade I first fell in love with.

A couple of weeks ago, I received an email from ELF, asking me whether I'd be interested in picking out a couple of products for a review. Obviously, I said yes! As much as I love high end make up and feel like you often do get what you pay for, there is no denying that there are absolute treasures to be found among budget brands if you know what to get. And I'm here to tell you what to get, so let's check it out!

Beauty: H&M metallic Dazzle Lip Topper

Beauty: H&M metallic Dazzle Lip Topper review

I've told you about my metallic lip obsession before when I reviewed the Milani Amore Mattalics. When I develop a crush on a new type of product, it can be difficult not to just want to buy one in every available shade. I mean, I hadn't even THOUGHT about metallic lipsticks before the trend started gaining traction, and here I found myself lusting after options from Jouer (Papaye) or Limecrime (Blondie). Not exactly a wallet friendly way to go about things, especially considering that metallic lipstick is a trend, not a new classic.

You know what IS the perfect way to add some metallic sheen to your lipcolour collection? Lip toppers! I had my eye on the Notoriously Morbid Changeling topcoats for a while (definitely worth checking out), but I prefer being able to swatch lip beauty products before I buy them so I never took the plunge. When I spotted the Dazzle Lip Toppers at the H&M beauty counters, however, I was SIKED! I ended up taking home two tubes, Glisten Up and To Boldly Glow. Let's take a closer look.

Halloween: inspiration + giveaway

Everyone knows Halloween is pretty much my favourite holiday - I'm a horror buff, and who doesn't love a good chance to pull out all of the less wearable shit in your closet and MAKE IT WORK?

Over the years I've shared some Halloween costumes and decorations with you guys, and while I skipped Halloween last year, I'm already planning this year's party with my girlfriends. The theme is "slutty", btw. I mean, you can't get more meta than being a feminist aware of the bullshit surrounding Halloween costumes always having to be sexy for women, and then actually throwing a slutty Halloween party, right?

I already know what I'm going to dress up as (not telling you yet!), but in case you're still in need of inspiration, here are some easy (and cheap) Halloween costume ideas:

Beauty: beachy waves with Redken Beach Envy Volume line

Beauty: beachy waves with Redken Beach Envy Volume line

I used to be quite underwhelmed with the texture of my hair. Fine, frizzy, the type of triangle shaped long straight hair that just doesn't "do" anything. Cutting back on sulfates and silicones has helped, washing less frequently and using dry shampoo as well. Oh, and having some face framing layers cut into my hair really made my natural texture come through: a very, very slight wave. I like to oomph up that wave and volume as much as I can, but I'm not often in the mood for a session with my curling iron. I prefer things a bit messier, less time consuming and less damaging.

Of course, natural beachy/pool hair is the perfect fix for that, but alas: fall is here. Just because summer's far in the rear view mirror doesn't mean we should give up on beach waves, am I right? If anything, now that we won't be getting a little help from sun, sea and a salty breeze, it's the time to look into some alternatives for the real deal that will keep summer in your hair even if the temperatures drop.

Today I'm reviewing the Redken Beach Envy Volume texturizing line, comprising a shampoo, a conditioner, and "wave aid" or basically a sea salt spray. Let's take a look.

Beauty: Urban Decay Moondust palette review

Beauty: Urban Decay Moondust palette review

Urban Decay never fails to provide pure eyecandy when they launch a new product, and the Moondust palette had every beauty junkie in the land sitting at the edge of their seat to get their fingers into those sparkly pans and swatch away.

There aren't many glitter eyeshadow palettes around, and for good reason: glitter is notoriously difficult to work with if you don't want your entire face covered in sparkly bits, and not everyone has frequent opportunity to incorporate glitter into their daily makeup. However, I already own Urban Decay's Moondust in Solstice and can vouch for the brand's claims that the fallout is minimal. Plus, I am a sparkle junkie, and fall always gets me in the mood for some witchy outfit and makeup vibes: the Moondust palette fits perfectly into my life right now.

Let's find out if the palette is as magical as it seems to be at first sight!

Beauty: Guerlain cosmetics F/W16 review

Guerlain cosmetics FW 2016 review

A couple of weeks ago, my girl Nathalie picked me up and we drove down to Brussels to check out the new beauty products Guerlain has added to their cosmetics line for fall/winter 2016. We took part in a really fun makeup workshop (slumber party vibes aplenty when you're in a room with 10 beautybloggers doing their makeup), and were given a range of products to take home for a proper review. Read on for a closer look at the new foundation brush, Lingerie de peau foundation, multi-perfecting concealer, two new palettes 5 couleurs, the cils d'enfer maxi lash mascara, the l'art du trait precision felt eyeliner and the new Kiss Kiss lipstick shade review.
